Ring sizing & resizing

The right size, the first time.

Finding your size is simpler than the internet makes it sound, and resizing is routine work for our goldsmiths. Here is how to measure, a size chart to reference, and exactly how resizing works at Aurelia.

Finding your size

Three ways to measure — none involve string.

Fingers change with the weather, the time of day, and the width of the band. Any one of these methods will get you within a quarter-size — and a quarter-size is exactly how we size.

i.

Order a complimentary sizer

We mail a reusable multi-size ring gauge anywhere in the US at no charge. Wear the closest fit for a day — fingers swell in heat and shrink in cold, so a full day tells the truth a single moment can't.

ii.

Get sized in the atelier

Walk into our San Francisco atelier and a goldsmith sizes you on a calibrated steel mandrel in minutes. No appointment needed, and we account for the band width of the specific ring you have in mind.

iii.

Measure a ring you own

Have a ring that already fits the right finger? Bring or mail it and we match its inside diameter exactly. It's the most reliable at-home method — far better than string-and-ruler guesswork.

US sizeInside diameterInside circumference
414.9 mm46.8 mm
515.7 mm49.3 mm
616.5 mm51.9 mm
717.3 mm54.4 mm

919.0 mm59.5 mm

Half and quarter sizes fall between the rows above — we size to the quarter on every band.

Resizing service

Resized in-house, in a week or less.

Your ring never leaves our San Francisco atelier. Our goldsmiths do the work, inspect the setting, and re-polish before it comes back to you.

01

Free for life on Aurelia rings

Every ring made in our atelier includes complimentary resizing for life — first fitting or twentieth anniversary. Bring it in or mail it insured; we cover return shipping.

02

Brought elsewhere? We still help

Resizing on rings purchased elsewhere starts at $65 for a simple sizing up or down one size in gold or platinum. Eternity bands, tension settings, and pieces with channel-set stones are quoted after a goldsmith reviews them.

03

Three to five business days

Most resizes are finished in three to five business days in-house — we don't send your ring to an off-site shop. Rush service is available before a proposal or anniversary; just tell us the date.

Lifetime free resizing applies to every ring made at Aurelia Atelier — proof of purchase not required; we keep the record.

Frequently asked

Ring sizing questions

How much can a ring be resized?
Most bands can move up or down two full sizes safely. Beyond that we're often adding or removing metal rather than stretching, which changes the price and, for patterned or engraved bands, the appearance. A goldsmith will tell you honestly what a given ring can take.
Which rings can't be resized?
Full eternity bands set with stones all the way around, rings with tension settings, and pieces made from tungsten or titanium generally can't be conventionally resized. For eternity bands we usually remake to the correct size; for the harder metals we recommend a fresh size from the start.
Will resizing damage my ring or stones?
Not in careful hands. We remove side stones when the work is near a setting, resize, then reset and re-tighten every prong. Each ring is inspected and re-polished before it goes back to you, so it returns looking better than it left.
I'm buying a surprise gift — how do I find their size?
Borrow a ring they already wear on the correct finger and either bring it in or trace its inside edge. If that's not possible, we size the ring slightly generous and include a complimentary post-gift resizing — better a touch loose than unwearable on the day.
