Channel vs. prong vs. pavé — why we channel-set the Marais
The Marais is a stacking band first. That means it has to sit flush against the engagement ring without prongs catching on the basket above it. A channel sets the stones below the channel rail — so the surface that touches the engagement ring is smooth metal, not raised stone.
Channel-setting also means we can clean the band without snagging a cloth on a prong, and means the eternity band reads as a hairline of light rather than a row of individual stones. The trade-off: the stones are more difficult to remove and reset, so we don't recommend it for stones you might want to swap.
Why all-around isn't resizable (and what we do instead)
All-around bands are not resizable — sized at order via the complimentary printed sizer.
For first-time clients we ship a complimentary printed ring sizer before the order is placed. If your finger size changes after delivery, the all-around can be recast in your new size at the original stone cost — we keep the stone budget on file. About one in twenty all-arounds comes back for this; we never replace the stones, only the band.
Half-bands are resizable up to one full size at no charge within 12 months. The half-band is the version we recommend if your finger size historically fluctuates with the seasons or pregnancies.
Materials & hallmarks
Solid 18k gold (all colors) or 950 platinum, alloyed at our bench in California from 100% recycled metal. The Marais is 2.0mm wide with a hairline-finished channel rail.
Approximate weight: 3.2g (half) / 5.4g (all-around) in 18k gold, slightly more in platinum. Stamped inside with the Aurelia maker's mark, the metal hallmark, and the year of completion.
Stones — sourcing & grading
All Marais bands are set with lab-grown diamonds, F color, VS1 clarity, ideal cut. IGI- or GCAL-graded against the same scale we use for the natural stones in our engagement rings.
We hand-select stones for a single Marais from a tray of about forty — matched for color, fluorescence, and table proportions. The match is what makes the channel read as one line of light.
Lifetime care
Channel rails take wear at the edge over time. We recommend a once-yearly visit (or insured courier round-trip) for inspection, high-polish, and a rail-trueing — complimentary for the lifetime of the piece. Rhodium re-plating included for the white gold option.
If a channel stone is ever lost in transit, we replace it from our atelier stock at no charge for the same calendar year.
Shipping & insurance
Fully insured signature shipping is included on every order over $250. Each Marais ships in a hand-lettered presentation box with a printed certificate, an archival photograph, and a bench note from the goldsmith who set it.
US delivery in 3–5 business days from completion. International via FedEx International Priority, fully insured, all duties prepaid.

Sit it below the solitaire
The classic position. The Marais's channel sits flat against the basket of the Aurelia Solitaire, with no gap and no rocking. Most-bought in the same metal as the engagement ring.
Sit it above the solitaire
A modern alternative — engagement ring against the knuckle, Marais inside it. Reads dressier and shows more of the band. Works best with the half-band variant.
Two Marais, mixed metals
The fastest-growing stack: a Marais Half in yellow gold above a Marais Half in platinum below. We co-fit the pair at the bench in the same fitting session.
